How Keepin' It Local Began

The idea of Keepin’ It Local was first discussed around a table in the Ferguson Roof Systems lobby in January 2021. Owner, Jamie Ferguson, began explaining to his family that he wanted to promote businesses in the area and show the community the importance of shopping locally in a new, exciting way.

After seeing post after post in many local Facebook groups asking for referrals for different services, Jamie noticed one thing- the referrals were just a list of names. It seemed no different from finding a random list of businesses on Google. He wanted to find a way to build a stronger connection between the business owner and the community.

The Ferguson family hit the ground running and aired the first episode of the Keepin’ It Local show on March 30, 2021. Live streamed from the Ferguson Roof Systems lobby, Jamie introduced the two first businesses of the show; something that would go on to showcase over 150 businesses and organizations.

Viewers tuned in to learn about the owner of each business, what they offer, and who they are outside of their line of work. By the end of the show, each guest became a familiar face with a story instead of just another “referred business”.

Where We Are Now

After a two year hiatus from live streaming the show, Keepin’ It Local has reinvented themselves once more to provide support for the community in new ways. Local business owners now have access to promote their services on the website’s business directory, monthly newsletter, social media, and of course, the beloved live stream.

The Keepin’ It Local team is working diligently to bring in new ideas for the community— and they are far from done. There are new and exciting things coming for the community of Tuttle, Newcastle, Bridge Creek, and Blanchard. We will also be expanding Keepin’ It Local into nearby towns soon.
